Polishing of your silverware
We all know the situation: a big family celebration is coming up, but unfortunately the silverware has tarnished because it has not been used since the last occasion. Sølvkælderen is, of course, happy to polish silverware professionally. The price is calculated based on an estimated number of hours. Please remember to hand in your silver items well in advance so that we have time to deliver the desired, beautiful result. If you then use your silverware daily, it will not tarnish as much.
If you polish your silverware yourself, be careful not to wear away hallmark stamps with an abrasive polish. Sølvkælderen sells polishing products.

Insurance valuations and replacement costs
Before you have “uninvited guests” in your home, you should have a professional valuation carried out of items such as silverware. Your insurance company needs this information. If the damage has been done and thieves have been by, Sølvkælderen can often assist with so-called replacement values. If you do not have photos of the silverware—including photos of hallmarks—you should be able to describe it in another way. Such valuations are carried out on an hourly basis.

Repairs
If misfortune strikes and the silver jug has fallen to the floor, or a piece of cutlery has been bent, Sølvkælderen’s goldsmiths—and especially our silversmiths—will be happy to take a look. We can repair quite a lot ourselves—and if we cannot, we know someone who can!
That is the wonderful thing about quality items that are handmade and made of silver: a great deal is possible when you have durable pieces on the workbench.
That is what we mean by sustainability, and it is always reassuring to know that family heirlooms can be restored and repaired, even if a celebration has been particularly lively.

Engraving
Engravings are the detail that is not noticed at first glance, yet is crucial when it comes to a personal gift of silverware. Both small and larger items can be engraved, and in practice it is only the space on the silver—and human creativity—that sets the limits of what is possible. A decorative engraving—also called an ornamental engraving—is approx. 0.20–0.30 mm deep. A deep engraving—also called a relief engraving—is approx. 1 mm deep, and it is also functionally suitable for making an impression in wax with a signet ring. Hand engraving carries soul and history, because it is literally “the work of the hand”.
