OUR VISION

We seek to spread the love of silver, and to give new life to old silverware!

WHAT WE DO

We sell new and old historical silverware from all around the world, and provide knowledge and services that help our customers take better care of their silverware.

THE FUND

We love silver! This is why we have made it our mission to support and carry on the silver craftsmanship and artistry. Through our fund we hope to motivate and develop future silversmiths.

Birgit Toft

Birgit Toft worked in Sølvkælderen for more than 58 years. She was initially hired because she spoke several languages, but ended up buying the shop. “Frk. Toft”, as she was called, owned the shop for more than 40 years. She worked until she became 83 years old, and passed away after four months of illness. Frk. Toft was a strong, independent, diligent and hard working woman that will be missed by all who knew her.

ABOUT US

Sølvkælderen was established in 1851 as a business with a workshop at Højbro Plads 4.

In 1953, Harald Hammer bought the rights to Sølvkælderen from silversmith Volmer Jensen (Volle).

Sølvkælderen moved to Kompagnistræde 1 in 1955, where it has grown to the 13 windows that are here today.

Birgit Toft bought Sølvkælderen and it remained hers for more than 40 years. In 2017, as an 83-year-old, she passed away after four months of illness. This led to her grand niece, Anne Jallit, assuming the role of Director of the shop in 2018.
